RiverSource Life and RiverSource Life of New York are consistently ranked in the highest categories by top rating agencies.

During the volatile markets resulting from the 2008-2009 financial crisis, many insurance companies saw their financial strength ratings decline. However, RiverSource Life and RiverSource Life of New York were not downgraded.¹

Each rating agency uses a different scale. To make it easier for consumers to compare ratings, the Comdex ranking — another third-party assessment of insurers' financial strength — provides a composite measure of ratings from the major ratings agencies. Comdex ranks more than 700 insurance companies on a scale of 1 to 100. RiverSource Life and RiverSource Life of New York each has a Comdex ranking of 95, meaning we rank in the top 5% of all companies rated.
